Going under the knife again soon.

Scheduled for mid-November, which is pretty darn fast. My surgeon examined me the other day, and said, yup, you need another operation. With the virus, he has a lot of extra time on his hands. I almost felt sorry for him.

He performed day surgery on me in February 2019 for a herniated navel. Did a good job, but only covered a small area with mesh where the protrusion and navel had been. In time, a cough here/a cough there, and my navel area slowly began to protrude on either side of the mesh.

This cut will have to be longer with more mesh installed, causing a bit of apprehension, having seen things in the news about mesh related operations gone wrong afterwards.

I’m not fat or overweight on any other part of my body, just a pinch in the middle. Since I was diagnoses with Type II Diabetes, I’ve been extremely careful about my weight, avoiding sugar and foods that cause sugar…at all costs, and changing to a healthier diet. Apples, bananas, canned peaches (in water, no sugar added), water melon, are good for me. I still have my weekly cheats (especially with chocolate), and occasional bottle of wine, but the Metformin I’m taking doesn’t mix well with it.

Never realized how nasty sugar is to the body; too much of it causing microscopic tears in blood vessels, leaving scar tissue, eventual damage to the circulatory system.

I’m not usually vain when it comes to my looks, but for the first time this summer, I felt embarrassed about others seeing me. Unless I have somewhere important to go (like doctors’ appointments), dressing for the occasion, I pretty well live in T-shirts. Since I retired, I can’t stand tight fitting clothes, and the loose fitting Ts partially hide my protrusions. One of the few good things about the pandemic is that it has reduced my physical contact with others.

As before, I will have to go to the Queensway-Carleton hospital for blood work (by bus), and preparation briefing. Jason will have to come with me for the actual operation, for assistance. It’s way the hell on the other side of town, in the west end, so it will be by taxi, there and back home. By then, Dean will have flown back to Calgary.

A lot of people are afraid of them, for fear of catching CV19, but with all the necessary precautions, I actually felt safe at the General hospital, visiting Dawn. There were people there, but not the crowds you would encounter in the pre-pandemic days.

All this, as ‘hots spots’ in Ontario (including Ottawa) and Quebec, have gone back to a partial Phase 2. No more bars, indoor dining; takeout only. I believe that churches are still open to limited numbers, but exercise/fitness centres are shut down. Not sure if it includes indoor shopping malls.

The Donald Trump Corona freak show continues, with the election coming in three weeks. A lot of Canadians, including myself, are worried about our closest and strongest ally. Whether he or Biden win or lose, will democracy as we know it survive? Will there be a second civil war?
