among the branches

by Chris Sorrenti

for Dawn Davidson
RIP October 27, 1951 to October 7, 2020

an october wind blows
amid the trees
along the path
behind my house
where you used to live
too

in strong wave intervals
powerful but playful
warm and determined
as you were

is it you then i hear?
in among the branches pulled
their glasses half full
till trees stand bare

i know you would have loved a day like this

roast beef and red wine
on a chilly autumn night
walking together
down the path of life
amid a sky and clouds in
varying shades of blue and grey
as you used to paint them

your face imprinted
on each one
