Lockdown by Chris Sorrenti
It all happened so quickly
one day, it was life as usual
imperfect as it may have been
in late February
anxious to taste the coming Spring
then the next day
that same world
brought to a screeching halt
Anything political
that had mattered
quickly and silently brushed aside
for the crisis now at hand
taking precedent
Go home, stay home
until further notice
was the prime minister’s message
as we all tried to
wrap our heads around
what was happening
what it would mean for us
personally
our family and friends
in the days ahead
Many did want to go home
but were incapable
scattered around the world
on cruise ships
vacation hots spots
where the virus
also quickly spread
ports started closing
borders and airports
shut down
for only the most
essential of travel
rescue missions planned
carried out
mandatory quarantine
upon stepping foot again
on home soil
With most of us home
bulk stores, supermarkets
pharmacies still open
some of the concern subsided
until each of us made way
to our places of shopping
as we always had
only to discover
for a lot of items
empty shelves
