Dean made it in safe and sound on Friday. His first time flying, and fortunately, a direct flight from Calgary to Ottawa, so he didn’t have to go through the hassle of changing planes in Toronto or elsewhere. Might be different on the way back, as he only bought a one-way ticket, figuring when he’s ready to go back, we’ll pitch in on another one way ticket back home.

Much needed and good therapy for everyone concerned, the three of us having essentially been locked down, except for necessary errands, since March. We’ve already settled into a routine of sorts, with everyone pitching in on cooking, cleaning, etc.

There’s been steady communication for all of us with family and friends via Facebook and email, but of course it’s not the same as face to face. Always makes me wonder what would have happened if the same pandemic hit the world in the 1960s, when all we had were rotary telephones. LOL. There again, it might have led to the earlier development of microelectronics and the Internet. Talk about an alternate reality!

Dean’s quarantine ends next Tuesday, and so far, none of us showing any symptoms of COVID. We’ll be going out for breakfast to celebrate at Gabriel’s afterwards. As I said in an earlier entry, one of the few indoor restaurants where I feel safe, due to every precaution being taken.

Last week I popped into Harvey’s; a burger joint for anyone not familiar with the name. Ordered my usual hot dog and frings. Aside from three other customers, the place was empty, even though it was lunch time. No more trays for eat-in...only bags.

Meanwhile, in the province of Ontario and the world at large, the number of cases continue to rise. Here in Ottawa, numbers at indoor and outdoor gatherings have been reduced as a measure to cut down on the spiking, in addition to higher fines for those flouting the rules.

Sadly, another outbreak at a seniors’ home, this time at the West End Villa, with 34 active cases and 11 deaths reported so far. With only a couple of weeks into the reopening of schools, there’s been a few disruptions already, with a Catholic elementary school shut down in the local suburb of Barrhaven, possibly for two or more weeks.
