On Spaceship Earth

by Chris Sorrenti

Everything that’s you and me
Drops of water – poetry
In river time
While others abound
Of every kind
Everyday something’s lost
That we may not find again
But you and I will never forget
Pen in had
With words of love
I kill the minutes
One line at a time

With her eyes
Orange tabby talks to me
I feel her presence
Around the next corner
Her retinas aglow with poetry
It’s a dog life I tell her
She purrs with a grin
Ignoring the meaning of my words
Happy enough with its tone

My wife she walks
On spaceship Earth
Hand in hand
Her love with mine
She asks me how I can believe
In something I can’t see
I answer her in poetry
Remember we’re all just cats
Trying to cross the road
And some of us have ninety-nine lives
Someday she’ll understand
