Flow on Forever

by Thomas K. Hunt

My river and me will flow on forever
There will be a time when I'll be one with the river
I'll find the current and be part of its eternal flow
You won't have to tell me when you're coming
When you get here I'll just know

The castle lights shine from the heart
The flood lights paint her walls as nighttime starts
The illusion of flames from her reflection of lights
surrounding her darkness on a St.Lawrence night

She's come to life since my father's time
Her once empty shell now prepossessing just fine
Her true elegance now so refined
Her majestic beauty preserved in time

My life's was guided by my parents guiding light
They blessed me with a hand me down love on a St. Lawrence night
A star filled sky blankets the river at night
So many hearts shine under those starlights

The river of ages flows for generations
and the ones that know this understand
Each with their own trials and tribulation
all have bones buried in this land

The rats knows what I mean
on the river where it's fresh and clean
Smiles in the eyes of the people who care
When you leave you leave something there

A young pioneer and his wife planted a seed
They nurtured it to life and it grew like a weed
Hundreds of seeds have sprouted out by now
I'm just one of those weeds in this old river town

For many born in this river rat town
It's the place to feel safe and sound
You share your smiling face in the comfort of your favorite place

Two gathered up their seeds of life
Fresh off the boat this husband and wife
Two that nourished you and me
They planted on the riverbank but nothing's ever free

Their roots grew deep and intertwined
Friendships formed to last for all of time
The one constant has been the St. Lawrence with me
When you're home and on the river you feel completely free

When you're away you miss it in every way
You dream of cruising the islands on a golden blue skied day
Smiles and laughter , memeories of fun
There are times you ask youself " why did you ever run"?

Lay me down in my river
Let its life set me free
Flow on forever
My river and me

There's a song in this waiting to be set to music. Thanks!
