Light Rail Transit

a nice tidy name
the way it should sound
way it should run

but the powers that be
at city hall
went for the cheapest bid
money over technical ability
redacted the contract
kept some of the most important people in the dark
till it was too late
the deed had been done

Light Rail Trauma

every night on the news
we see the result
of breaking one’s own rules
not enough testing
a multitude of problems
lives turned upside down
even Lowell Green knew years ago
electric lines in winter would be a bad idea

personally I avoid the train at rush hour
not normally claustrophobic
but the sight of all those people
herded like cattle in the freezing cold
scares the hell out of me

all my appointments downtown
are arranged in off peak hours
rode the train four or five times
so far
had no problems
but don’t want to push my luck
now have to walk several more blocks
to get to where I have to

Light Rail Terror

inevitably
I fear
there will be deaths
whether by suicide or accident
electrocution
factoring in
Ottawa’s inclement weather
though I’m sure the powers that be
have that figured out too
