I Like Alice

by Chris Sorrenti

And miss her
she added a bit of intellectual spark
to an otherwise quiet life

A retired English teacher
as I understand
and quite the artist
poet painter and singer

And though some may worry
if the poets are fighting
then there’s no hope for any of us

Not to worry my friends
you have to understand
we artists are very passionate people
in our creativity…politics
and it sometimes gets the better of us

I like Alice
and miss her
hope she’s doing well
I know
the usual sentimentals
but that’s all I have now

Or
to put a twist
in a nice way
on an old Anne Rice line
poets are like vampires
we don’t settle old scores
we harbor them

We learn most from those with whom we disagree, and often like most those who have disappeared; of more concern is missing those who have not. Your conversation piece is evidently a virtual stimulant.
