A Lesson in Love

by Brian Francis

The world had fallen into a darkness
forgotten was the heavenly home
Yet, with love and heavenly mercy
Came god to be among his own
His birth chamber, a simple stable
His first cradle a trough of hay
Ox and ass stood in attendance
The star looked down bright as day
Angels sang in praise and glory
The creator the king just but a babe
The soul of man, lost in the gutter
Dirtied and soiled then cast away
To be redeemed upon this foundation
To be taught again just how to pray.
