Sincerely Stephanie

by Chris Sorrenti

Sincerely Stephanie I really love you
Even though you haven’t yet been born
I’m patiently waiting for the days
When your laughter will bring sunshine
To my life to feel my heart skip
When you reach to hold my hand

The marvel and the mystery
Of what your face will be
And the colour of your windows to the world
As they look to me for fatherhood
Learning the meaning of daughterhood
The fragrance of your sugar and your spice

Sincerely Stephanie I really love you
Just have patience and you will see what I mean
It may be truly years
Before you come to read these words
But you’ll know their meaning
Long before that time has come

Author's Note: Written at a time when my wife, Cindy, was pregnant with our first child. We chose not to know the sex of the baby in advance. Whereas the poem, Buggy and the Carriage, deals to a certain degree with the possible birth of a son, this poem was written if the baby would be a girl. Both Cindy and I liked and agreed to the name Stephanie.
