Providence by Chris Sorrenti
The Lord works in mysterious…and not so mysterious ways
Just the other morning I was reminiscing about a cat
my son and I had for a year or so
Days...weeks even
I would occasionally open the back door
as would my son
and call his name
Which at first glance may seem kinda crazy
considering how much trouble he put us through
as this one was no ordinary feline
a cat with personality
so much so...at times he seemed almost human
the way he looked at you
you could tell he was working things out
Too feral to keep inside all the time
destroying the furniture
scratching out his territory
spraying everywhere
from top to bottom
Had planned having him fixed
but the waiting list was horrendous
though none of it would matter
in the end
He took off one night
as he usually did
but this time was different
as the next day
he didn’t return
nor the days...weeks after that
I guess someone higher up
was listening…watching
cause not long after the reminiscing
a traveler arrived
and as the saying goes
when a stray comes calling
best not to turn it away
He’s not quite as wild as his predecessor
more refined you could say
but still very much a cat’s cat
and up till now
the furniture remains quite safe
Yes...
the good Lord works in mysterious and not so mysterious ways
