My only experience with them was my first and only time
at work actually, back in 1978
a junior clerk in a records office
me and another guy from the west coast
cool guy, a hippy type, flowerchild
had met Joni Mitchell at one of several parties out there

Just after lunch
he offered me a brownie
can’t remember if it was weed or hash
even though I was at work
figured what the hell
having handled lots of situations
stoned from smoking weed
but never in this job

A half hour after eating the brownie
still felt nothing
and in a sense almost relieved
then my boss asked me to mail an important package
to be sent yesterday

With my office on the 17th floor
and mailroom in the basement
I hoped on the elevator with the parcel
as I had done many times before
momentarily forgetting about the brownie
in a rush to get the job done

And then it hit me
by the time I reached the basement
the full effect of the brownie had kicked in
I had never been so high on THC in all my life

Gathering my thoughts
walked into the mailroom
and managed pretty good, despite my predicament
then headed back up to the office
where I didn’t make a peep
except the absolutely necessary
for the rest of the afternoon

Although not a bad experience
without question, an eye opener/lesson learned
and from that day forward
I never again did cannabis on the job

my only advice
start off with the smallest of quantities
or you may end up at the hospital
