In a Moment of Time

by Thomas K. Hunt

Moments in time captured in photos of mine
Preserved smiles that seem to shine
Memories of family and friends
Frames all in a row end to end

In a moment of time it can all be gone
What you thought you knew but you were wrong
Chances lost by your own hand
The innocence of love seemed to be part of the plan

Hopes and dreams shattered by the closing of a door
In that moment of time wanting so much more
Life changing choices with eyes closed tight
Young hearts straining to know who is wrong and who is right

In a moment of time without a sign your life can be torn apart
Your dreams scattered with pieces of your heart
Fading memories of a voice and of laughter
Lost in a moment of time and all the moments after

In a moment of time the sun's going to shine
Feel it on your face it sure feels fine
The moon will still tuck us in at night
We'll wake up smiling in the morning light

Never give up hope and follow your dreams
Do what you have to, come up with a scheme
Enjoy the ride but be careful where you walk
Listening and learning gives you the right to talk

We're not alone on this lonesome ride
It's up to us who we keep by our side
We live in other hearts and minds
handed down, passed on with time

Faces turned to memories that make you smile
Memories you haven't thought of in a while
Feelings you felt when you were feeling fine
The way you felt from a moment in time

Thomas, thanks for this beautiful piece. It brings me back and back and back to shared moments and memories, not knowing of course whether the memories in the other have already faded and left the planet. A picture can cast me back, like the one of my 7 year old nephew and I holding a string of fish we had caught that morning in the lake. Now he's got two kids and a big responsible job. I don't think he has that picture. He MIGHT have that memory. As always I admire your work, the easy way you seem to find just the right rhyme seems almost like breathing to you. Thanks again.
