She Never Said Goodbye

by Thomas K. Hunt

She never said goodbye
She just closed the door
The look in her eyes said so much more
I never thought that we would ever end
She wasn't just my lover she was my very best friend

She looked at me and smiled then said "we're through"
She said there was nothing that I could do
I stood at the front door in the pouring rain
When she closed the door I felt the pain

She didn't understand she was part of the plan
She was going to turn me into a man
I was counting on her to see it through
She did something she didn't need to do

She closed the door and broke this heart of mine
The look on her face is tattooed on my mind
She just closed the door and never said goobye
She closed the door and never saw me cry

I'd never known so much pain
as in that night crying in the rain
She was right, there was nothing I could do
I couldn't believe that we were through

Days dropped by and stole my time
She's still in my heart and in my mind
Years have passed and I feel the same
I always tear up when I hear her name

I've seen her on occasion, glimpses from afar
Fleeting moments that tease my heart
Seeing her just brings back the pain, reminding me of that night in the rain

It's strange how she still holds on
after all this time that she's been gone
It's strange that I still feel the same
as I did that night crying in the rain

She never said goodbye
She just closed the door
The look in her eyes said so much more
I never thought that we would end
She was my lover and my very best friend

I have an intense love for this ode, given my woman left me in the same way and I'm still pining the day she was still mine.
