May Day
by Chris Sorrenti
tulip eyes
look up to the sky
like first baby teeth
that cut the dry
musk of barbecue
foretells a festive return
to the growing season
feel the caress
of a may first rain
blanket the material
of leather and suede
sweat shirt folly
run for shelter
holding hands with a smile
for spring is finally here
they’re chasing submarines
in the waters off norway
in moscow
they salute their missiles
but here
there’s just a peaceful
easy feeling
watching the grass
blush green again
as ten-speed racers
go whizzing by
derailing that last breath
of winter
