Work is a Complex Oxymoron
by Chris Sorrenti
Though it helps to
keep me sane
providing purpose
direction
a sense of pride
and accomplishment
not to mention
clothing and food
roof over my head
a little left over for
entertainment
I question the rationality
of having to go out
five days a week
occasional weekends
share space with strangers
some quite distasteful
face the drudgery
repeatedness
on beautiful days
storms of every variety
jump through
metaphoric hoops
play the game
of politics
put up with
overling egos
the whole while
uncertain
when it will be my time
to finally stop
and will I have the health
finances to afford it?
or so conditioned
as part of the system
will I even want to?
