The Alibi

by Johnny Crimson

Where were you
when the world went down?
When the lesions leaked
from the liars mouth;
when the wolves and sheep
conspired somehow
as all that hurt came falling out.

Where were you
when the levee broke
and the current became
a castle's moat?
When the crimson tides
washed away our homes,
where were you
when they ate our bones?

Where were you
when the kingdom came
as the monarch stood
on the lion's mane?
When the beggars tapped
our country's vein
and shot it up
with liquid pain.

Where were you
when the funding stopped
and all of the opposed
were shot?
When the children became
and afterthought,
where were you
when we fought for naught?

I was busy moving to Canada for legal remedies to short-term memories...ahem.
