Last Night

by Chris Sorrenti

I dreamt of us
once more last night
or better your whole family
vivid amid those few precious hours
in the early dawn

We were teenagers again
I visiting you
just as in reality
you had once me
canvasing for a cause
though my dad answered the door
and by the time I arrived
you had already gone

All together comfortable
in that half double
the next street over
your mother and I sitting together
and your dad
across from us
carrying on small talk
then you and your sisters
walked into the room
don’t know where your brother was
it was just that kind of dream

A feeling of
warm spiritual harmony
radiating between all of us
as we prepared to
break bread for the first time
