Road Trip by Brian Francis
I watched them drive away
My heart burdened and low
It always strains the ties, but
those ties are strong I know
Mom will keep them safe
She always wins the fight
avoid an angry momma-bear
the cubs will be alright
The hugs will have to do me
So warm and loving too
love to warm my loneliness
to help me make it through
Two weeks without their voices
Nights of worry, longing, and fear
Two weeks without their gentle touch
Two weeks without them near
It will be a painfilled struggle
Like waiting for the shit to drop
without their needing pestering
My heart might simply stop
Life without that source of love
To wash life’s pain away
Leaves me in a darkened mood
Makes me want to pray

Posted by Glenn Currier on 09/20/18 at 02:45 PM Brian, I've always hated goodbyes and your poem is an encouragement to reflect on why that is, to express the feelings and thoughts involved. I like the rhymes. Writing good rhyming poems is difficult. I haven't gotten it down yet. It is a challenge both to the mind and the spirit. But you did it well here. Thanks so much. |
