Reciprocal by Chris Sorrenti
Counterforce
without measure
retaliation
flows through my veins
every affront merits
an equal reaction
Threaten me
and you have challenged
challenge me
and I will fight
I will kill
without pity
or remorse
gone the days
of humiliation
turning the other cheek
instead
handing you the reciprocal
Acid words
and fiery syllables
fill bright rooms
when I'm not there
sharpened lines
no longer to scathe me
survival coming
to those who are strongest
for do the meek truly
inherit the earth?
I am a product
of the world that surrounds me
let an ocean of readiness
drown out any fear
Love is allowed
though must protect itself
a weapon armed
but as yet undelivered
until
I hand you the reciprocal
