After the Gulf War by Chris Sorrenti
They're heading for the unemployment lines,
these soldiers of good fortune,
having defeated the Hitler of Iraq.
The NAZI descendants sent him nerve gas
to scud against the Jews,
though he didn't have the nerve to use it.
The Soviets sold him fighter planes
then held back on the best parts,
and the U.S. in exchange for oil,
gave him bullets for his hungry masses.
A lone gunman’s stalking the President
thanks to the Rifleman's Association;
they say,
“Guns don't kill people, people kill people,”
though it'd obviously be more difficult
if the stalker didn't have a gun.
The Soviet President's held a referendum
cause the Gulag's gone to pot;
there's no meat in the stores,
but everyone has a VCR
playing porn made in America,
and though the Warsaw Pact's been dismantled,
the Red Army's planted on the farm,
is that another Stalin we see
smiling between the headlines?
The sky over Kuwait is a beautiful black,
the Persian Gulf now only a swimming pool
for machinery.
The coalition's claiming victory,
though they've left the culprit in power.
Some would blame the British
from thirty years before;
others the French or Israelis,
but no matter what colors
you carry on your flag,
ask yourself the ultimate question…
Has anything really been improved?
