Don’t like chocolate cake
Don’t like stomach aches
Don’t like wearing clothes
Don’t like socks with open toes
And birds when without a feather
And of course inclement weather.
But Lilyana I sure like you, with your big wide smiles
I would set to sea and cruise with you for miles.
Now some will tell you I was grumpy
But only when my porridge was lumpy
Think of me as your grandpa, not well understood
Now today you are one and just begun!
Please knock on wood under the sun.
Now I am sixty eight and near the end of my run.
And I hope you love me half as much as I do you
And if you ever miss me, in my pictures too
Just get your folks to take you to the zoo
I may be the giraffe or the monkey in you.
Funny, delightfully fanciful piece. A child of one will love this later on and take pleasure in reading it over and over or, better yet, have it read to her by Grumps (I mean, Gramps!) ;)
