reconciled

by Peter Humphreys

when I am up
I look
to the swirling swishing sky

when I am down
the earth is covered
with green lustrous
cow munching grass

when I look back
I do not wish to go

when I look forward
into infinite uncertainty
I am ready to fly
to let go
to fly wherever I am led
higher than the sky
deeper than the greenest grass

Peter, your poem reminds me of a statement a friend of mine saw on a church billboard: "Don't look back, you are not going that way." But your poem is more thoughtful and profound. I like that last stanza especially in the way that it raises the challenge of the creative spirit while acknowledging the green grass in our present - this kind of looking is what poetry does for me. Thank you sir.
