Don't Get Me Wrong by Thomas K. HuntDon't get me wrong
I mean you no harm
I thought I'd sit down and write you a song
Come on and sing along
One moment I'm right here
The next I'm gone
Keep an eye on me
I'm in and out of this song
I'm quite content with a quiet night at home
All by myself just burning bones
Do what you do I want you to
I'll be right here writing a song for you
I won't say do you remember that time
We have so many that live in our minds
Just think of one you haven't thought of in a while
It won't be long before you're wearing a smile
I remember your face in the sun
when everyone knew we were one
Funny how I can still feel that way
Remembering your smile from younger days
Don't get me wrong
I mean you no harm
I thought I'd sit down and write you a song
Come on and sing along
This is my song for you
It's something I needed to do
I finally had to get my message through
after all this time that we've been two
My foolish mind played with my heart
Tricked me with the hopes of a brand new start
You said goodbye and I lost a friend
I know now a broken heart never mends
Every time you hear this song
you'll be compelled to sing along
I hope you smile or shed a tear
I wonder if there's been any in all these years
I'm quite content with a quiet night at home
All by myself just burning bones
What it is, is what it seems
There's really nothing in between
Don't get me wrong
I mean you no harm
I thought I'd sit down and write you a song
Come on and sing along

Posted by Glenn Currier on 04/14/18 at 04:20 PM Great lyric. The lines I relate to particularly are: "My foolish mind played with my heart / Tricked me with the hopes of a brand new start" I find this all to true with me for so many years... the disconnect between the mind and the heart. What your poem does is connect them in a beautiful way. The poem, in my judgment, reveals a mature heart and mind. I don't use that "m" word very often, but here it makes sense and seems true. A heart filled with an elusive journey. I love your work and look forward to reading more of it. Thank you, Thomas. |
