004. 3

by John Herzog

I think I've gone too far
in my wondering way
an earthbound astronaut
wandering urban nebula
past 45th street now
spanning neighborhoods
I've never known
and never will
my eyes glazed

gazing light years behind me
oblivious to all passing by me
brick facades and power lines
unbodied and adrift in fog

my stop long missed
I could jump off any time
call for journey's end

but I think I'd rather
turn my face forward
to see what worlds await me

"an earthbound astronaut wandering urban nebula" - terrific lines describing your wonderful observations from the buses you ride.
