Martin

by Brian Francis

The shining light of his dream for all men
helped us to see our stains and flaws
As a nation – the home of freedom
His light made justice our national cause

Elements of society, resisting the tide
Whispered fearful stories of non consent
Of loosing our national identity and soul
the end of our great experiment

Taking up the cause of yesteryear
white sheets and burning crosses
The stars and bars their rally flag
forgetting the confederate losses

Yet, freedom came at its own pace
some times in leaps and bounds
allowing men, to be men of self-respect
their only limits beyond the clouds

But darkness can find a place in light
hidden in the secret shadows of the mind
And that is what happened in Memphis
When he was taken before his time

But he showed us the way to stand up free
binding your hands in actions of peace
The darkness still there trying to break out
the battle continues and will never cease
