For My Children by Andrea ColtonI feel it when you sleep-
the pulse of your breath as you dream.
And I am convinced that no world could be
good enough for your dreams;
but let it take you away
on adventures that tiny feet
couldn’t possibly carry you to on solid ground.
(I always thought flying suited you better, anyways.)
And I never could have known, that those
perfectly placed, fluttering eyelashes
could contain an entire universe.
Fingertips that hold galaxies, of all that is pure
and right.
Love, encapsulated in the deepest lines
of your smile.
You, an extension of only the best parts of me,
and still only you, in your entirety, unique.
The sun, when the darkness falls around me.
The earth, when the walls become consuming.
In all things,
You are everything.
