WELCOME TO VIETNAM
by W. Mahlon Purdin
Today was the first day for America
After the Las Vegas assault massacre.
59 dead, 527+ injured,
In a high-ground slaughter.
Fully-automatic weapons firing over
And over as fast as magazines
Could be changed. People in panic.
Everyone running, some bleeding to death,
Some dead from the maliced aim
Of the shooter. Like shooting fish
In a barrel.
The people who caused it,
Walked to the podiums expressing
Sympathy and empathy,
And pointing everyone
In every direction
Away from them.
It was just another day,
Welcome to Vietnam.

Powerful stuff. I suspect there is plenty of blame to spread around in this present society and we pretend that those "at the top" are there to do something. Impotence of thought and action abounds. Thanks for a thought provoking piece.
