White Blotter by Chris Sorrenti
Quietly children whisper now
for the master slumbers in the changing shadows
past the point of setting sun
awaiting the result of the act he’s done
a tiny piece of paper placed upon his tongue
textured into separate shades
amounting to only one
The taste as that of the local pharmacy
and seconds after it’s initially felt
soon comes the time when the sorcerer’s spell
will caress this child like a sledgehammer
to make him laugh and make him stammer
upon each and every flavored word
An hour divided in the first of two
passes by in anxious impatience
for Lucy is coming upon the next train
and even though the master as yet doesn’t know
he himself is on a journey
stepping on to the vertical horizon
the second of the two of the hour divided
and all dimension is suddenly questioned
amid the illusion of false alarm
His every molecule an inner space aimed rocket
as a cake rising action is almost done
all the room seems drained of oxygen
his head and body an elastic band
reality and fantasy mix together
total logic to be placed aside
as laughter rules every move
pulled is the trigger of this human gun
bang bang bang shoot the diamond bullets
a battle’s lost so a war is won
Loudly children sing out now
for the master’s out of town again
and won’t be back till late morning
exhausted from the thing he’s done
a tiny piece of paper with no visible purpose
placed upon his tongue
has served its purpose well
