Demand & Supply

by Chris Sorrenti

you wonder
when that next love poem
will blaze across your computer screen
through the miracle of Internet
read my heart time and again
but have I correctly read yours?

distance as always
cushioning us
from errors of judgement ... regrets
of what might or might not have been
messy realities of romance...
better to dream
an ocean of hugs and kisses
than to live in a puddle
of frowns and tears

but the wishing well
has run dry my dear
each of us
in his and her own way
drawn from it so many times

perhaps that this
could be the last drop
will finally break down all barriers
so face to face
we can fill that well
with an eternity's worth
of poetry
