Canada Day 2017
by Chris Sorrenti
far from Parliament Hill
amidst a violent thunderstorm
neighbourhood fireworks go off as well
mother nature and man made
competing with one another
ZIP WOOSH CRASH BANG
windows tremble
lightning travels horizontally
night turns to day in microseconds
I jump off my seat
instinctively fearful
one might blast through
yet can’t help myself
from having a look
with window wide open
I am that child again
Canada Day 1967
on Henderson Avenue
not far from the Hill
watching in awe
with older cousin Elaine
as now
the ones in the distance
above Parliament
join in
