Broken Promises by Brian Francis
Simple things give worth to life
like a hug or smile from one we love
A cherished devotion to a shared cause
A bond unbroken tried and true
Like the becoming of a child
and a devoted attendant's praise
guiding them as they explore it all
building themselves enduring it all
To lay it all on the line without pause
make their needs your only cause
But all things crack and deteriorate
Or comes a time you're no longer needed
Tossed aside like a worn out shoe
driven away your heart unheeded
Promises made when it all began
divorced from today's reality
broken, shattered, gone, unknown
Alone surrounded by memories
Of better days drenched in trust
terminated for want of a better man

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 04/21/17 at 12:23 PM Brian, this poem captures the state of human affairs rather accurately. I suppose it is the fate of all beings, once loved or held in high regard, to forfeit rank in a loved one's eyes. I suppose as well, that this is consistent with the nature of all things, arrived at a certain epoch in their lives to lose value of some sort or other. |
