Siren

by Chris Sorrenti

On like a light tonight
Working overtime on my nerves
In for the fight tonight
And baby you don’t know the story

You haven’t even started
To pick apart the lies
Haven’t even tried to see
Just why I’ve closed my eyes

Up on the dam again
Waiting for the steel to bend
Down on my luck again
But this time I’m laughing on the inside

As all that while I kept my mouth shut
Waiting for this moment to begin
Shouting outside to all of the people
I am the fool on the hill

Out on the road again
Waiting for the traffic to show
In like a spark tonight
And baby you don’t know the story

You haven’t even started
To recognize the crime
Haven’t even begun to see
Just why I’ve shut my eyes

Up on the bridge again
Waiting for the concrete to blow
Down in the dumps again
But this time I’ve pushed back confusion

As all that while I sat there thinking
With fist underneath my chin
When all I had to do was open my mouth
And then I knew that I could win
