Addict

by Sarah Boom

I've kept your toothbrush in the holder,
I stored your messages in the cloud.
Just In case you get the notion,
to come back 'round.

You were damaged, you were broken,
A rebel without a cause.
You were everything I never needed,
so why am I sad that you've moved on?

Is it this big and empty queen size bed,
Where we used to lie our heads...
And you swore to keep your promises,
but you spent your nights breaking them instead?

I knew you were an addict,
The drugs, the pills, the rum.
I just thought that I was the one that could save you,
but I couldn't, and now it's done.
