My Autobiography

by Thomas K. Hunt

This is my autobiography
I was born, I lived, I died
I walked on earth shortly after my birth
In no hurry to reach the other side

Lived through losses and sorrows
Felt the hurt and shared the pain
A piece of heart that now seems borrowed
Faces never to be seen again

I couldn't have asked for anything more
Family and friends on the St Lawrence shore
All the love my life has shared
Lives through the lives that still live there

I know that generations to come
will teach their daughters and their sons
Live a life full of laughter and happiness
Feel what it feels like to be truly blessed

Someday you'll run out of strides
I'll be waiting on the other side
I'll know you; there are no other eyes
You just move on; no one ever dies

Someday you'll be writing one of these
A little something you just wanted to leave
Hopefully, you'll have nothing more to say
Your life turned out the very same way

This is my autobiography
I was born, I lived, I died
I walked on earth shortly after my birth
I just made it to the other side

A poem we can all relate to, Thomas. Superb expression of the human condition.
