To a Former Student Dying of Cancer

by Leonard M Hawkes

Clay, I met your son again
In school today—
A bright and friendly boy—
Much like you were then.
He told me the time is growing short.

I just wanted to thank you
For becoming what every teacher
Hopes his students will become.

And I look forward to that day
When we’ll sing together once more
Those old, well loved German songs.

I hope Clay gets to see this before he crosses over.

What a positive message to send in this time of life for Clay. Hopefully his crossing over will be eased in knowing your thoughts and that his son will benefit from your presence in his life also. Nice work Herr Hawkes. Peace -bf
