Rough

by Chris Sorrenti

sometimes
there's too much polish
in what should always look
scuffed
no
things can't always be
sharp
as a razor's edge
nor soft
as a baby's bum

sandpaper
sings with a
caveman image
rub it into the skin
of your mind
a club swinging down
to smash office desk
into two
you as modern executive
not knowing
what to do
but

go through life
with the glory
of a viking
another wild norseman
freezing
his balls off
in a north atlantic storm
when he gets home
three years later
his wife greets him
with a smile
then bites off
one of his ears

all I can think of while reading this is how even sandpaper gets smooth which I think is part of life's irony
