Colorful Language

by Chris Sorrenti

it’s not poetry and it’s not prose
it’s only colorful language
a little bit of rhythm and a little bit of rhyme
mixed together like a shepherd’s pie
it’s only colorful language

one step higher than a good conversation
and not everyone can stomach the altitude
put a Shakespearean mask
over your face and mind
would you believe me if I told you
that it wasn’t Halloween?
it’s only colorful language

some people think it a little bit queer
but it’s only colorful language
more see it as unnecessary
and a total waste of time
though it’s only colorful language
they like to throw tomatoes
at the Cinderella of the arts
by ignoring what will always be there
an entire universe set upon a keyboard
or pumped into a pen
yup you guessed...

it’s only colorful language
