A Cold Wind by Brian Francis
The north winds blow a chilly passing
and nature turns to slumbering deep
castaway leaves dance in its bluster
chasing, chattering among the trees
Birds set off for their winter roosting
swimming among the cold gray clouds
the grass lays low in the pasture
the herds stand close in their crowds
windows shiver in their frosty coats
and drafts seek warmth to oppose
but near the fire comfort reigns
offering warmth to chilly toes

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 12/12/16 at 04:40 AM I need a blanket after reading this, Brian. I really liked the chattering leaves, the birds "swimming among the cold gray clouds," and liked the unique line "drafts seek warmth to oppose". Thanks! |
