In a manner of thinking
the game of Chess
is like a page of Connect the Dots
64 squares...64 dots
16 pieces move differently in
varying distances and directions
a finite number of possibilities
within a limited period of time
In combination with an opponent’s
train of thought
offense/defense
interchangeable
depending on skill…circumstance...
a moment’s lapse of attention
checkmate...stalemate...
forfeiture of game
While a young man
I played so much Chess
got sick of it
now can’t look at a board
without bringing on
a special nausea
then asked myself
why not play the game
...in real life
An infinite number of squares
over a limitless period of time
the game to go on
long after I’m physically gone
and not unlike a game of Solitaire
this version of Connect the Dots
played against the Devil
for an infinite number of pieces
limitless amount of souls
