Portage

by Sarah George

There's a spot on the river where
the frog songs and insects almost overpower the traffic and
the water flows slowly, turning at my feet in a gentle eddy
almost still
save for the 'plop' of a frog as i stand to drop my prayers in
And the curve of the river conceals so that
i can almost convince myself the glistening on the water is moonlight
or the milky way and not
the lights on the dam upstream
And as i peek between the overhanging branches and the treeline
at the big bear in a grey sky
for a moment
i can almost believe i'm home.

You make me want to be here. The serenity is palpable. Thank you.
