mere mortal
experience gathered
with each new page
while reading the dynasty’s
own timeless victories
to bring with wonderment
aspiration
these humble beginnings

Author's Note: No title piece was ever written for this first collection. However, at some point during the early 1970s, I became aware of the expression, “From humble beginnings, come great things.” During the massive reorganization of my work in the late 1990s, the word ‘Beginnings’ quickly came to mind as a good title. And so it has remained ever since. When researching its origin, I came up with both Finnish and American references, but no one person to have actually quoted it. Somehow along the way, I came to believe the expression was, “From humble beginnings, come mighty things.” As for that slight twist of words, I’ll let you be the judge.
