It's Summertime in the 1000 islands

by Thomas K. Hunt

Now you southern fools with your swimming pools
you think you've got it made
You should see the river under a golden blue sky with the island shade
You either burn up on your beaches or you freeze inside
You need to be walking down on Riverside Dr.
You can have your sand and your no shade trees
I'll take the river and the summer breeze

It's summertime in the 1000 islands
There's a thousand ways to have fun
Lost in fun in the heart of the Islands
Cruising on the river under a summer sun

Familiar faces
Warms smiles passed around
That feel of comfort when you get into town
The feel of ease just to feel that breeze
The smell of the woods in the middle of the trees

Down around the corner on the other side
That's where you'll find me
I won't hide
I'll see you from time to time
We'll share the adventures of our minds

We all live for our river time
We get that summer frame of mind
Come on let's cruise between the tunes
under the golden blue skies of June

When the days last hues collide with the setting sun
When the first star shines when the day is done
When the moon rises from afar
We'll glide across the river under a blanket of stars

There's nothing like a golden blue day
Your heart in your hand pulling out from French Creek Bay
Your mind is wound up and it's set for fun
Topped off with the colors of the setting sun

The door's always open
if you make your way north
The light will shine from my front porch
I must warn you if you travel the miles
You'll never leave and you'll constantly smile

It's summertime in the 1000 islands
There's a thousand ways to have fun
Lost in fun in the heart of the Islands
Cruising on the river under a summer sun

Beautiful country, Thomas, and great poem to reflect it. Thanks for the reminder!
