Ripples by Chris Sorrenti
“Are you not worried
about how much of yourself is exposed
through your poetry?”
not at all
I am protected from others
as they are from me
“I don’t understand.”
ah well then
perhaps a little background is in order…
as much as we are physical entities
made up of matter
so too are we comprised of energy
and as Einstein pointed out
“Energy cannot be created or destroyed,
It can only be changed from one form to another.”
although many of us don’t realize it
we are constantly turning matter into energy
energy into matter
a cycle that extends into space and time - infinity
from which we all come
and eventually return
and are ourselves in essence - infinite
when I write a poem
through my physical self…matter
I am taking energy and using it
to describe something that exists in my mind
only as energy
a person - place - thing - event
that once existed or took place
may still exist - be taking place
or could one day exist in the physical world
and through the use of that energy
returning it to the physical world
in the form of text on a computer screen
or piece of paper
the process can also be applied to abstract things
such as emotions
emotional impact being the fuel source of inspiration
and thus human creativity
the Jedi religion refers to it as The Force
a field of energy that both surrounds
and moves through us
as it does all things
mineral - plant - animal
in all universes - dimensions
it guides our actions
but also obeys our commands
and through its very nature
tells us if something is positive or negative
right or wrong…
so to answer your question fully
if we do something positive
it causes ripples in the energy field
and when aimed at others
is both absorbed then reflected off them
back to us
and on to others
I call it the ripple effect
if we do something negative
the same thing
“Ah, what goes around comes around.”
precisely
but some precaution
under the influence of space and time
when reflected off others
and their own perception of reality
energy never returns in exactly the same form
