South Park

by Leonard M Hawkes

And I slept—

But I did not sleep alone:
For the Snake lapped
On the stony shore not ten feet
From my bed.
The restless breath of
Idaho night played in willows
Above my head.
City sounds surrounded,
Even sang a lullaby,
And travelers and homeless
Hosteled drowsily nearby;
Constant, Selene kept
A silent watchful eye—

And I cuddled down wantonly
To memory of you.

A peaceful night in comfortable surroundings. These places are familiar and within easy reach - something reassuring about this. Thanks.
