Up The Spiral Path
by Chris Sorrenti
the winds of progress have landed me here
higher up the spiral path
no more fear of storm clouds
what the future has in store
as I’m reaching from my roots
through the forests and the trees
finding new religion
within the dampened soil
“Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God”
as I heed the words of a mighty poet
who died at the age of thirty-three
while others continue to make war with me
yet still I make new friends
and every friendship is but a doorway
into another system
where new words grow
row upon row
to make my own tree stretch taller
as I’m reaching for my roots
through the forests and the trees
almost a religion
though it doesn’t really make any difference to me
getting my pen fertile with the soil of life
planting brand new seeds
and though sometimes moving too fast
up the spiral path
realizing that I’m lost
at times like this I have to reach down
tug at those roots once again
experiences of the past
that help shape the future
help me make new friends
