On The Loose (In The Poetry System) by Chris Sorrenti
They can’t ever get to us
When we’re loose in the poetry system
They can’t spread their vicious lies
When we’ve transferred to the poetry system
As we hear their muffled cries
Staring at us through the force field
Too hard for them to penetrate
Too difficult to understand
They can’t stab us in the back
When we’re playing in the poetry system
No one will ever believe their lies
When we’re exploring the poetry system
For we’ve scarred them with that gentle paranoia
That keeps us all in line
How can their words ever hurt us again?
When our own number in the tens of thousands
They can’t enforce their self-righteousness
When we’re flying in the poetry system
They can’t ever have us again
When we’re living in the poetry system
For only the pure in heart
Can hear the songs we’re singing
As all around the darkness rages
The worst of the lunatic fringe
Cringe as they see us safe and sound
On the loose in the poetry system

Needless to say, by the time Adventures was written, I had mellowed out quite a bit.

Posted by John Harder on 05/15/16 at 01:51 PM I read this as a rock n roll anthem. I love how poring over our older work takes us back in time to a former version of ourselves. |
