gloomed and weary of
writing about writing
lo! how does one wrench stanzas
from skyscrapers?
utopia - pallid promise
become stale bread - stagnant waters
twenty five stories up

there are octopuses on display
they've trained them to be file clerks
and other related duties:
cleaning the overspill from overpaid overlords
tentacles of their own
wrapped around phones
never stopping to buy me

last year's periodicals gandered first
or simply writing
which produces the best poem?
damn! done it again!
writing about writing
drowned in a sea of syllabic unimaginatives
high above the city

ascent too rapid
on high speed elevators
eight arms bailing out desk
sunk under weight of paper
paper I'd love to write on
but no time - room in the budget
for decompression chamber:
travel allowances to inspire burnt out poets
