Just wondering

Why then must a man
or woman for that matter
have names dragged through the mud?
reputations tainted or even ruined
convicted in the court of public opinion
before having their day in court

Obviously
the police wouldn’t have arrested them
without some cause
but until the investigation is over
why must identities be released to the press?

Seems to me the statement should read
Guilty until proven innocent

And what of those who break the eighth commandment?
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor
as is sometimes the case

If accusation disproved
should the accuser then not also be prosecuted
to the full extent of the law?
