Maybe Now I Don't Want To Change The World

by Chris Sorrenti

now that I’ve found you
my own world has improved so much
that I no longer feel like changing
the one around me
not that it doesn’t still need improving
but there are so many others out there
up to the task
I’m sure it’ll do fine without us

would you think less of me then luv
if I said let us find a quiet place
where we can be alone
with only one another to focus on
no matter how foolish in presuming
this Barrett and Browning
could be kept quiet for long
only a question of time
before we’d be clawing
to again rewrite the headlines

and in this all too quickly I realize
the naiveté of my words
knowing full well
the world’s already been changed by us
irrevocably
for everything we write
long or short
moves the reader to some degree
that in turn everyone they touch
also changes

so if the world is still to be improved
turned to gold
then let us do it together
and let it keep on changing us
only and all for the better
